The town
Just a few notes for now, more pictures , links and details will be added soon.
The town, Marseillan, is a great little, picturesque town on the banks of a coastal lake called the Etang de Thau. Its prosperity evolved from the production of mussels, oysters and of course, wine.
With the opening of the canal de midi nearby, the small port became an important stop off before heading off to sea. The town also is the birthplace of the oddly named Noilly Prat, Frances' own 'Martini- vermouth' where you can do the tour ( see the link)
These days Marseillan is a quite a sleepy place, the locals are friendly, they are well used to the holiday trade. The restuarants are great and not overpriced, boulangeries abound for the breakfast-trip and there is a small Spar shop for the extras. Weekly market, and a couple of festivals each year. There is the fantastic port, where you will probably spend most of your evenings at on eof the restuarants that line the quayside.
A recently opened iternet shop/cafe now means that you keep in contact with your emails or great for searching -out any info that you may need whilst on holiday.
